Congratulations Mollie Sommerville, LSA in Year 6, was presented the Gold Standard for the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award by HRH, Prince Edward, The Earl of Wessex in Dubai last month. Ms Mollie, a Year 13 student at AAESS last year, also recently achieved the top mark for Edexcel Advanced Level Psychology in the Middle East! A great hard-working role model to be working with our students!
Principal Thomas added, “To achieve a Duke of Edinburgh Award is an amazing achievement; to achieve a Gold award is outstanding and one that is quite rare. The dedication and commitment that Mollie has shown to gain this accolade has been relentless, however, no surprise considering Mollie also achieved the highest award in the Middle East for Edxcel International A Level Psychology in the same year.
Mollie has a very bright future ahead of her, and it has been an absolute pleasure in having Mollie work here at the School this year, as she takes a gap year before going on to university.
We are very proud of Mollie and our expanding Duke of Edinburgh Award program, and I must thank Miss Norton who leads on this, with all the other members of staff that give their time so generously, allowing Mollie and many other young people the opportunity to succeed and have an experience of a lifetime.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is very demanding, where students must complete grueling expeditions, voluntary work, and learn new skills as well as involving themselves in a healthy and active lifestyle. The award is held in high esteem across the globe and recognised by top universities and employers. Mollie becomes the first AAESS recipient of the Gold Award and I was delighted that Mollie had her award presented by Prince Edward on behalf of his father. Congratulations, Mollie! ”
