World Scholars Cup

Two teams from Al Ain English Speaking School competed with other students from Abu Dhabi at the World Scholars Cup at Al Ain Juniors on the 22nd and 23rd November. Over the course of the weekend the scholars completed a series of gruelling tests from three intense debates, team and individual quiz as well as collaborative writing.

The teams were entered into the Senior category despite the fact that the majority of students could have entered into the junior category, given that they were competing against students much older than them, they rose to the challenge. All students left with both gold and silver medals for each category, with Greg Ptasinski winning 5 medals overall and Mahmud Asdemir achieving top 25% in the arts and top 40% for both Science and History.

Above all of the accolades the students left with, both teams also qualified to represent the school at the Global Scholars Competition. This is a five day event which will have the teams competing against students from around the world and be in with a chance of gaining a place at the Tournament of Champions at Yale University.

We wish them every success at the next stage of the competition, with a huge syllabus to now study and debates to practice, we are sure they will rise to the challenge.
